We are proud to announce that among the winners of the Silesian Scientific Awards 2020 was the Vice-Rector of Research & International Relations Professor Janusz Kapuśniak. Professor Kapuśniak was distinguished for his significant contribution to the development of Polish, European and global science.
Here’s a profile of Professor Kapuśniak presented at the gala event:
“The head of the Chair of Dietetics and Food Science, the Chairman of the Board of Discipline of Food Technology and Nutrition. The Vice-President of the European Polysaccharide Network of Excellence. An outstanding specialist in functional food development and food packaging technologies. A multiple grant holder of the Foundation for Polish Science. An author of about 80 original scientific articles, 5 chapters in monographs, 6 patents. A head or member of the steering committees of many Polish and international research projects. A winner of numerous scientific awards and distinctions. Currently, the head and leader of one of the top University’s research and development projects funded by the National Centre for Research and Development ‘The development and implementation of an innovative technology for the next generation fruit and vegetable processing enriched with potato fibre preparation with prebiotic properties for children and adolescents'. The project has a significant social aspect, since dietary procedures have not yet been developed in a practical sense, which would reduce the consumption of high-sugar products which cause obesity and cardiovascular disease. Professor Janusz Kapuśniak is a committed and respected promoter of Silesian science on the national and international stage!”
Among the nominees, other academics of our University were also presented with the Silesian Scientific Awards 2020: Professor Grzegorz Banaszkiewicz (Faculty of Art), Professor Dariusz Złotkowski (Faculty of Humanities), Professor Jacek Wąsik (Faculty of Health Sciences) and a doctoral student of the Faculty of Science & Technology Marika Turek MA (chemical science).
