On 19-23 June 2023, the Institute of History of JDU hosted Prof. Caijun Chen, representing the partner university Jinan University (People's Republic of China).
Professor Chen Caijun is the director of the Centre for the History of Christianity in China at Jinan University in Guangzhou (the capital and largest city of Guangdong province in southern China). His main research interests oscillate around the history of Christianity in China, cultural exchange between China and the countries of the "West", Western sinological reflection. He is the author of numerous books and scholarly articles, such as "American Missionaries and Sino-American Diplomatic Relations in the Nineteenth Century (1830-1899)" (2008), "Convergence and Change: Knowledge, Culture, and Faith in Late Imperial China" (2022). Over the past 20 years, Prof. Chen Caijun has lectured at many universities, like in Germany and the USA (Bridgewater State University). He also visited Poland several times, and in September 2017 he visited our University (at that time Jan Dlugosz Academy in Czestochowa), being a participant of the international scientific conference entitled: "For freedom and justice... Christian Europe between faith and revolution" (Czestochowa 18-20.09.2017).
During his stay at JDU, as part of the Erasmus+ Programme, Prof. Chen conducted 8h classes for students of the Institute of History. The Guest was supervised by dr Norbert Morawiec.
