​PROFESSOR ANNA WYPYCH-GAWROŃSKA RE-ELECTED AS RECTOR OF JDU FOR 2020-2024 TERM


On June 3, 2020, Professor Anna Wypych-Gawrońska, the incumbent Rector of Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa, was re-elected for the 2020-2024 term of office.

Professor Anna Wypych-Gawrońska represents the field of humanities, discipline - literature. The Professor graduated from the University of Silesia in the field of culture studies in 1989. She received her PhD in literature studies in 1995 defending her doctoral dissertation on Lviv theatre of opera and operetta in the years 1872–1918, and in 2007 she received her habilitation defending her post-doctoral dissertation on Warsaw theatre of opera in the years 1832–1880 at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. In January 2018 Professor Anna Wypych-Gawrońska was granted the title of full professor of humanities. Her areas of expertise include literary studies and the history of theatre.

Professor Anna Wypych-Gawrońska has been engaged in three research projects, two funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education ("Literature in opera. Dramatic and musical adaptations of literary works in Poland until 1918" - a project in the discipline of literary sciences and "Warsaw opera and operetta theatre in the years 1880-1915" - a project in the discipline of art sciences) and one funded by the National Science Centre ("Music in Polish dramatic theatre until 1918" - a project in the field of theatrical and performing arts). The Professor is a member of several scientific societies.  She actively cooperates with Polish and foreign institutions of science and culture. The Professor is the author of monographs, the editor of multi-author works and the author of publications in monographs and articles in Polish and foreign journals, as well as biographies in the Polish Biographical Dictionary. Professor Anna Wypych-Gawrońska has taken part in dozens of scientific conferences in Poland and abroad. For the book "Lviv opera and operetta theatre in 1872-1918" she received the "Theatre Book of the Year 1999" award granted by the Theatre Critics’ Section of the Polish Centre of the International Theatre Institute. Prior to her appointment as the Rector of Jan Długosz University on 1 September 2016, Professor Anna Wypych-Gawrońska held the position of Deputy Head for Research at the Institute of Polish Studies in 2006. In 2008 she was appointed Vice-Dean for Research at the Faculty of Philology & History and in 2012 Vice-Rector for University Development. In 2016 Professor Anna Wypych-Gawrońska was appointed Rector of Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa.
