3. Silesian Science Festival Katowice 2019

Numerous science initiatives, high-tech equipment seen firsthand, unforgettable experiences and challenges – all these attractions await all festivalgoers of the Silesian Science Festival Katowice 2019 - one of the largest scientific events in Poland.

Co-organised by Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa, the 3rd edition of the Silesian Science Festival Katowice 2019 will take place on 12-14 January 2019, with an official opening ceremony featuring a special guest speech by a NASA astronaut Nicole Stott, a CallTrain MO4/HG4 multimedia installation prepared by prof. Marian Oslislo from the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice and accompanying musicians, as well as the Silesian Scientific Awards Gala (venue: Stanisław Wyspiański Silesian Theatre in Katowice, January 12, 7 pm).

The Festival was initiated in 2016 as a joint project of Silesian higher education institutions whose primary goal was to promote science in the region of Silesia, with the academics and representatives of the world of science and business from Poland and abroad showcasing their scientific potential and research covering different fields of study.

The Festival will offer multiple events and will feature innumerable lectures, workshops, performances, games and experiments aimed at promoting science and presenting scientific research outcomes as well as innovative solutions with their implementations in industry and economy. There will be specially selected zones dedicated to specific fields of science: humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, exact sciences, technical sciences, medical sciences and arts, with all the initiatives connected by one common theme: ENERGY. The opening event for the Festival will be the 8th Biologists’ Night planned for January 11 – aiming at supporters and enthusiasts of the life sciences with the goal to popularise biological sciences and broaden public awareness of animal, plant and microbial life.

The International Congress Centre in Katowice will be the main venue of the Festival events with two stage locations, a space zone, a sport & e-sport point, a kids area, a zone of scientific laser shows and the OFF Science zone – a show-off of unique inventions developed in garages, basements or private workshops.

Admission to the premises of the Festival is free, but participation in selected activities requires prior registration.
